Smita Bhide...


...was born in Bombay and educated in India, Southall and at Oxford University.  After working for Women’s Activist Group, Southall Black Sisters, and as a Television Researcher (Channel 4’s Bandung File). she wrote short films for BBC TV and Channel 4 and has also directed for television (Channel 4, ITV). 


Smita’s short films have successfully screened at film festivals in Europe and North America and have sold to broadcasters in the UK, Ireland and Canada.  They include Park Stories, starring Parminder Nagra (Bend It Like Beckham); award winner Cup & Lip, starring Nina Wadia (Eastenders) and Richard Hawley (Prime Suspect) and Snowman with Noel Clarke (Doctor Who, Adulthood) for Channel 4’s short film series, Coming Up.


As a screenwriter Smita has written scripts for some of the UK’s most successful directors.  Including Peter Webber, Peter Kosminsky and Kevin MacDonald.


Smita currently has several features in development with Ealing Studios / Harbour Pictures, with Dan Films (Creep, Severance) and with Warp X (Film Four / UK Film Council).
